Zebraline was so charmed by Lefor-Openo’s work for EDF that it wanted to incorporate their signature female figure in its advertising. In this way, the two designers became victims of their own success, continually asked to replicate a formula for everything from sewing machines to—in this case—stove polish. While still very much within the visual language of their typical character, this poster presents a more mature woman polishing an electric stove. Such slight variations in their figure’s appearance as she performs similar domestic tasks suggests that traditional gender roles were reinforced across generations—the modern French woman, whether 18 or 48, was, first and foremost, a housewife.
