This is one of four promotional posters that Chwast designed in 2004 for The Zak Company in Tokyo, Japan, announcing the Year of the Monkey. Perhaps the boldest of the four, the humor of this image in which the monkey captain turns to look at the viewer from inside the spaceship crowded with colorful details and unlikely monkey mementos is reminiscent of Chwast’s work as a children’s book illustrator.
