This is one of four promotional posters that Chwast designed in 2004 for The Zak Company in Tokyo, Japan, announcing the Year of the Monkey. The posters were commissioned by Kazuhito Imaeda who had studied at the School of Visual Arts before returning to Japan to found this company focusing on graphic design and communications. This composition, showing a screaming monkey, is based on Chwast’s woodcut of the previous year titled Fright (in the Seymour Chwast Archive).
