This poster is the work of Andrzej Pagowski, considered a member of the third generation of artists of the Polish School of Posters. He evidently moved easily from state patronage under the Communist regime to capitalist activity, founding of his own graphic studio, Studio P, in 1990; in 1993, he transformed it into an advertising agency. His poster designs are often characterized by surreal and/or slightly sinister motifs and reflect his individual approach to each theme. Here, for example, he shows a woman’s head silhouetted on a filmstrip cell covered in colorful squiggles to promote the 1990 Women in Film Festival held in Los Angeles that year.
