In this boldly defined image of a disembodied blue hand drawing with a fantastic, multicolored pen in the form of a rocket ship, Chwast promotes the 10th iteration of the summer design symposium at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. He says that the Buck Rogers pen is intended to inspire viewers to look to the future of design. Buck Rogers was a fictional air-force pilot and astronaut who became a sci-fi hero in newspaper comic strips first published in 1929. These popularized such sci-fi gimmicks and contraptions as robots, ray guns, and rocket ships.
