This is one of a series of posters, all in the red, white, and blue of the American flag, called We the People. Its title is taken from the first line of the U.S. Constitution and it was designed by Shephard Fairey in late 2016 to protest president-elect Donald Trump. In 2008, Fairey had designed the iconic poster featuring presidential candidate Barack Obama lettered “HOPE.” In this series, he showed portraits of African Americans, Native Americans, Latinas, and Muslims, people he considered most vulnerable under a Trump regime on the basis of the candidate’s campaign rhetoric. Each image also incorporates a specific slogan, in this case “Defend Dignity.”
