Scher’s poster, with its typography in English and Japanese on a gray ground, evokes the austere beauty associated with Japanese design. It promotes an exhibition of her work at DDD Gallery in Osaka, Japan in the spring of 1999. DDD was founded in 1991 as a graphic design gallery by Dai Nippon Printing Co. and was fairly prominent in the graphic-design scene there by the time Scher’s show opened. In 2014, the gallery moved to Kyoto.
