The Honey Pot is a 1967 film with a plot based loosely on Ben Johnson’s Volpone, about a millionaire (Rex Harrison) living in Venice, who hires an actor to play his personal secretary; his job is to trick three greedy ex-girlfriends into believing he is dying and about to leave his fortune to one of them. Variety described this movie as “An elegant, sophisticated screen vehicle for more demanding tastes.” The conventional figure of Harrison as man about town, shown here striding toward the viewer in evening dress, is given a contemporary gloss by illustrator Jerry W. McDaniel; his swirling cape is ornamented with stylized images of the three women in dresses featuring the psychedelic swirls that were then the latest in art and fashion.
