This is one of a series of propaganda posters titled The Downfall of the Dictators is Assured issued by the British government during World War II to advertise its military successes abroad. The conventional, figurative illustrations were produced by different designers and were published in a range of languages, including Arabic, French, Dutch, and Portuguese. This one addresses the campaign in the North African desert between 1940 and 1943, resulting in the first major Allied victory of the war; in this dramatic scene, British artillery troops attack tanks from German Major-General Erwin Rommel’s notoriously tough Afrika Korps. John Nunney’s first work as a commercial graphic designer is recorded in 1923. He later produced numerous poster designs in support of the Allied war effort.
