Issued by Seagram Distillers, this poster is from a series created specifically for use in bars to warn those enjoying a few drinks to watch what they say while under the influence. Seymour R. Goff, known by the pseudonym Essargeé (or Es-ar-gee, a play on his initials), was the art director for Seagram. He created a handful of designs in this series, each relying on simplified graphic forms and a reduced color palette of red, yellow, and blue. Here, he stylizes the Führer’s distinctive hair and toothbrush mustache to suggest that Hitler himself might be listening to the barroom banter.
