This poster, produced in 1977 for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, capitalizes on the extraordinary success of the first Star Wars movie, released the same year. It features the Star Wars characters C-3PO and R2D2 with a message urging parents to get their children immunized. The poster was designed alongside a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on television, during which the two droids encouraged parents to get their children vaccinated against measles, mumps, and polio. This was also the year in which the Carter administration made a major effort to eliminate measles.
