This is one of the large posters by Dimitrii Moor that was offered as a bonus to subscribers of the Soviet periodical Bezbozhnik u Stanka (Atheist at the Workbench), founded in 1923 to promote the Bolshevik state’s anti-religious ideology and policies. This one also appeared in a smaller version with a different caption that was included in a 1927 portfolio of designs from the journal. Moor vividly describes how Christian ethos will inevitably lead the people to a terrible doom. Here, a vast, unsuspecting crowd reverently follows Christ over the edge of a promontory, this time into the hideous gaping mouth of a bespectacled man (who possibly represents the archetypal capitalist businessman).
