The design of this poster for the German release of the American British film Powwow Highway is loosely based on the illustration in the original version. The film tells the story of two Cheyenne men, Buddy and Philbert, on a road trip to bail out Buddy’s imprisoned sister. The huge, shadowy figure of the Native American on horseback brandishing a bow and arrow in the background plays to the enduring German fascination with a rather stereotypical version of Native American culture since the publication of the Wild West novels of German author Karl May at the end of the 19th century. The film was produced by HandMade Films (here incorrectly named Handymen films), established by former Beatle George Harrison and his business partner Dennis O’Brien in 1978.
