Renowned German graphic designers Günther Kieser and Hans Michel founded their design studio in 1952 and collaborated for the next ten years on posters and other designs for the German Postal Service as well as for the Hessischer Rundfunk (Hesse radio network), and other organizations. They were also hired by Lippmann & Rau, which organized the German Jazz Festival in Frankfurt, to create the poster for its 1955 program, after which they received commissions to design posters for all the big jazz musicians (Kieser went on to work mainly for this firm after he and Michel dissolved their business); they also designed album covers for Blue Note jazz records. In this poster, as in their others for the German Postal Service, they incorporate hand-drawn, playful illustrations that bring life and humor to this rather uninspiring topic.
