This is one of many sophisticated, artistic posters produced for the established Swiss luxury men’s-clothing firm of PKZ (Paul Kehl Zurich, named in 1881 for the founder). Alex Digglemann’s avant-garde image, suggesting the delights to be found inside a PKZ box, is characteristic of the narrative, illustrative style of many of his designs of the 1930s. Dingelmann became famous from the late 1920s for his sport and travel posters as well as those for Swiss businesses like this one. He won the gold medal in the graphic arts category for his “Arosa” poster for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and silver and bronze medals in the 1948 London Olympics in the same category.
