In 1968, “Nixon’s The One!” was the slogan for Republican candidate Richard Nixon’s second presidential campaign, and it appeared on posters and bumper stickers all over America. The unknown designer of this largely conventional image, featuring a photograph of a cheerful, white pregnant woman in a gingham dress surrounded by an ornamental border, nods to the popular hippie tendencies of the moment by showing the woman with bare feet and by adding printed flowers (presumably in an attempt to expand the stodgy Nixon’s appeal to young American voters). This poster was parodied in posters and buttons for years afterward.
