By the time Ludwig Hohlwein designed this poster, he had largely abandoned the avant-garde Sachplakat (object poster) style with which he had made his name more than two decades earlier in favor of the figurative conventions favored by the Nazi regime. Here, he promotes the Nebelhorn Cable Car on the Nebelhorn Mountain, near the village of Oberstdorf (seen in the background) in Bavaria; it was completed in 1930 when it became the longest cable car lift in the world. Here, he shows a cheerfully robust man with hiking poles in apparent pursuit of the healthy outdoor activities typically advocated by the Nazis. The text is in the German Fraktur style of the medieval period frequently deployed by the regime to suggest a long and distinguished cultural heritage.
