As in the other posters in this series for the Munich Olympics, Aicher and his team created an abstract pattern from the stylized forms of the sportsmen and objects in the images. Twenty wrestling events were held at the Olympics, with ten weight classes in Greco-Roman wrestling and ten in freestyle wrestling. A variant of this poster includes the date range for the events.
