This is one of the ten posters in the “Aspects of New York City” series commissioned in 1968 and donated to the city by the Container Corporation of America (CCA). Like the others in this remarkable group, Giulio Cittato’s poster, with its white photographic image of a dancer dissolving into abstraction on a saturated red ground, reflects the sophistication and artistic ambition of this civic project. Cittato also designed a poster titled “theater” in a series of 16 from around 1968 celebrating the city of Chicago, produced for the Chicago Cultural Communication Project by the Container Corporation of America (CCA) and the Center for Advanced Research in Design (CARD).
