This rather creepy image of a doll trapped in the frame of a vintage radio is characteristic of the radical work of photographer Marcia Resnick, who would soon become an important figure in the legendary art scene of Downtown New York. She designed the advertisement for WCBS Radio while she was still an undergraduate student at Cooper Union. Resnick returned to the city in 1973 after graduating with an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, and for the next decade or so made photographs of such cultural luminaries as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Susan Sontag, John Belushi, Laurie Anderson, and Mick Jagger in an experimental, irreverent style well-suited to her subjects.
