A little boy in a red suit cheerfully leaps out of a clothing box in an advertisement for “The Pelican” line of children’s clothing offered by Fraisse Vêtements, a department store in Grenoble, France that specialized in the “Bayard” range of men’s and boys’ clothing as well as sportswear, reflecting the town’s proximity to the Alps. It also worked with exceptional artists on its posters and catalogues during this period, among them the French fashion illustrator Marcel-Jacques Hemjic. While the designer of this particular poster remains unknown, the composition reflects the sharp lines and dynamic forms of the Art Deco style favored by the company. It was published by R. L. Dupuy, a prominent Parisian advertising agency.
