This image, reflecting the sinuous lines and saturated colors of the Art Nouveau style, advertises the fourth annual exhibition of La Libre Esthétique (The Free Aesthetic), an artistic society founded in Brussels in 1894 to continue the work of Les Vingt (The Twenty), a group of progressive artists who wanted to exhibit freely outside the official salons. The new society showed work by its own members as well as non-Belgian artists like Gauguin, who had six new works in the salon promoted here.
