This poster from the 1958 National Conference of the Polish Peace Movement suggests that rockets can be used for peace (the white rocket in the foreground appears to be heading for the moon) rather than war (as signified by the black intercontinental ballistic missile behind it). This sophisticated, stylized design reflects the influence of the Polish School of Posters, a genre that emerged in the decades after World War II during which the arts were allowed considerable artistic freedom under the Communist regime. Little is known of the designer B. Kuszka but in 1957, he also produced a design for a poster advertising the Polish version of the Sidney Lumet film 12 Angry Men. His collaborator on the poster here, Zygmunt Lis, was also a painter.
