The little-known Robert Wolff (“Robys”) designed quite a number of advertising posters between 1933 and 1950, many for alcoholic drinks, including the concoctions “Toni-Kola” and “Bitter Secrestat.” Kina Lillet, launched by brothers Paul and Raymond Lillet in Bordeaux, France in 1887, was originally based on local herbal remedies combining wine with quinine. But as the young woman seen here, cheerfully raising both a glass and a bottle of Lillet and partially enveloped by a vividly colored grape vine suggests, Kina Lillet was designed to be consumed purely for pleasure.
