This poster advertises the 1965 German release of the 1964 American film known in English as The World of Henry Orient, starring Peter Sellers as an egotistical concert pianist with a complicated personal life who is trailed by two little girls who might have been sent as spies. Or not. It was designed by Kurt Degen’s Atelier Degen in Stuttgart, a studio that produced numerous posters promoting the German release of American films, including many for United Artists films like this one. The studio and Degen himself also designed posters for the James Bond films. This suggestive illustration is one of the least conventional of the studio’s posters, its figures at once entirely readable and establishing an abstract pattern in the composition.
