Elmes was one of the illustrators commissioned to design around 350 work-incentive posters for the Chicago-based printing firm, Mather & Company, between 1923 and 1929. Series of these colorful posters, each featuring eye-catching imagery and an inspirational message for workers, were sold to office and factory managers all over America. During a period of economic expansion, slogans like the one here, as well as “Watch Your Step … Be Tactful!” and Diving for Success … Mean It and You’ll Make it” were intended to encourage productivity during a period of economic expansion.
