This is a travel poster for the Belgian town of Ghent, promoting the attractions of the “art town” in both Dutch and French, the two languages of the Flanders region of Belgium in which it is situated. A variant of this design is lettered in French only with the words “Gand/Chefs D’Oeuvre De L’Art Flamand. Monuments Médiévaux. Fleurs” (Ghent/Flemish Works of Art. Medieval Monuments. Flowers). Here, designer Jean Boekaert uses a restricted color palette to highlight the Gothic towers of St. Bavo’s Cathedral as they emerge from the gray and dark green of the medieval town in brilliant gold against a blue sky.
