Director Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket was released in Germany in 1987, the year it opened in the United States. This poster is closely based on an English-language version that incorporates both a still from this anti-war film showing the military brutalization of recruits during the Vietnam war and a small version of another poster for the film by British illustrator Philip Castle. Castle’s famous poster, with its helmet lettered “Born to Kill,” was also produced full size in a German-language version; he collaborated closely with Kubrick on this design as well as on a celebrated poster for the director’s A Clockwork Orange.
