To promote the 1985 exhibition From Brooklyn to the Sea: Ships, Seafarers and New York Harbor at the Museum of the Borough of Brooklyn, Chwast presents an imaginary steamboat named “The Pride of Brooklyn” with passengers waving from its decks in a detailed scene that resembles a children’s book illustration. The vessel references the steamboats that once crossed the East River between Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan. This was one of several posters that Chwast designed for the museum during the 1980s.
