This Swedish poster promotes a benefit concert for the Swedish Red Cross, emphasizing the important work of the organization’s numerous volunteers among civilians as well as on behalf of soldiers on the battlefield and prisoners of war. The poster was issued in 1919, after World War I, in the year that the Swedish Red Cross was admitted to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and points to the continuing work of the organization in traumatized communities. Leander Engström, a Swedish painter best-known for his portraits and Swedish landscapes, some influenced by Expressionism, appears to have made only a few prints and poster designs.
