This Spanish-language poster is one of a number of designs in both Spanish and English that Chwast has made for the American Cancer Society (ACS). The eye-catching image, with its family seen at home in a room decorated with vibrant floral wallpaper, is intended to encourage Hispanic women in the United States, who experienced higher rates of cervical cancer than white women, to get a pap test. The newly formed ACS first endorsed the pap test in 1945 as an effective means of preventing cervical cancer; this was responsible for a significant decrease in cancer mortality among women in the United States beginning in the 1950s.
