Paula Scher’s composition for Dog Opera, a dramatic comedy about a gay man and a straight woman, was another in the series of extraordinary silkscreened posters she produced for the Public Theater’s 1994–95 season. The simple design references both New York City (with the Empire State Building), where the two friends live in separate Manhattan apartments, and the telephone that is their main means of communication. The series launched her now-celebrated collaboration with the theater, one that continues to this day.
