The image shows a Marianne figure wearing various symbols of France next to the Cross of Lorraine, a 16th-century symbol adopted by the French Resistance during World War II. It became deeply associated with de Gaulle and was used by many of the conservative political groups that supported him. Here, the cross is adorned with small leaves, indicating, as in the other poster, that the young Fifth Republic still needs nurturing. The accompanying text was used on a variety of political posters during the election and urges voters to “Trust in France, Trust in de Gaulle.”
