This poster by an unknown designer promotes Cailler’s Swiss Milk Chocolate, the oldest surviving Swiss chocolate brand, with an image of a cowherd watching over his herd as they eat the brilliant green alpine grass, emphasizing the quality of the local milk that goes into the product. The first Callier chocolate factory opened in Vevey in 1819, already a center of chocolate production; it was one of the first modern chocolate factories and began to produce the molded bars of affordable chocolate made from milk supplied by local dairies and other chocolate delicacies on a huge scale. While this is a decidedly traditional design, the company also hired such masters of the medium as Charles Kuhn and Leonetto Cappiello to create its posters and promotional materials.
