This poster, with its identical illustrations of French actress Brigitte Bardot and its lengthy text (clearly intended to entice both male and female audiences), promotes the American release in March 1960 of the French film Babette s’en va t’en guerre (Babette Goes to War), released there in September 1959. This comedy about a clueless French country girl in London who parachutes into German-occupied France to help the Resistance capture a German general became the 4th most popular film at the French box office that year. Bardot had become an international sex symbol after her appearance in the 1956 film And God Created Woman. After the American release of Babette Goes to War, however, the Los Angeles Times announced “Bardot Clothed in New Film.”
