A vast troop ship about to embark for Europe dominates the composition in a conspicuous assertion of American military might. It is decorated with American flags and surrounded by patriotic civilians, cheering, waving more flags, and throwing their hats in the air. The phrase “Over There” seen at the lower right of the image refers to the popular song of the same name released in 1917 by American lyricist and entertainer George M. Cohan to encourage enlistment. This is the second poster in the series issued by Schulte Cigar Stores promoting Thrift Stamps to support the war effort.
