The poster promotes a concert held at the Gouden Wieken (Golden Wheels) arts center in The Hague (Netherlands) in 1965 to commemorate 20 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. The layered, asymmetrical typographic design is characteristic of the work of Dutch graphic, furniture, and architectural designer Paul Schuitema, a member of the Circle of New Designers alongside Moholy-Nagy, Herbert Bayer, and Jan Tschichold. Schuitema was a pioneer of modern typography, applying the principles of Constructivism and De Stijly to commercial advertising. This poster, created late in his career, is consistent in style with many of his poster designs from the 1920s and ‘30s.
