This is one of the most famous posters issued by the Office of War Information during World War II and was intended to encourage public support for the war effort by reminding civilians of the sacrifices of those in the military. It shows a photograph of the five Sullivan brothers standing in their U.S. Navy uniforms behind a bulkhead; they had died on November 13, 1942, in a submarine attack on their ship, USS Juneau, during the Battle of Guadalcanal. The blue service stars above their heads and the red border patriotically evoke the Stars and Stripes.
