This poster, showing a hand strangling a serpent with three heads representing Fascism, Socialism, and Communism, is the work of German graphic designer Fritz Rosen under the pseudonym E. Mehrmann, suggesting his fear of the new Nazi regime. It was produced in the Berlin studio he shared with the celebrated graphic designer Lucian Bernhard, one of the pioneers of the German Sachplakat (object poster) style. Although the style was somewhat out of vogue by the time this striking image was made, the design nonetheless incorporates its bold outlines; they are combined here with the Fraktur style of lettering favored by the regime.
