This poster is for the 1977 German release of the 1976 American film Silver Streak, named for the train on which much of the action in this comedy thriller takes place; in Germany and other parts of Western Europe the film was renamed Trans-Amerika Express or a version of this title. While the American posters for the film are mainly based on stills from it, this illustration encapsulates key details of the narrative. The lead character, played by Gene Wilder, thinks he sees a man being pushed from the train as he romances another passenger (Jill Clayburgh) in her cabin. He is then accused of murder by the killers and the real drama begins. This clever composition gives the viewer a voyeuristic glimpse of an intimate moment between a couple, oblivious to the danger surrounding them, through the train window, one whose form also suggests a film cell.
