This poster promotes the British television crime drama Cadfael, starring Sir Derek Jacobi as Brother Cadfael, a detective in medieval England, and based on the many novels in The Cadfael Chronicles by Ellis Peters. It aired in four series between 1994 and 1998 on both the BBC and as part of the PBS Mystery! series, which mostly featured British material either purchased from or co-produced with the BBC. The composition is dominated by a photograph of Jacobi, who engages the viewer directly with his gaze as he stands in a building purporting to be Shrewsbury Abbey, where much of the series takes place (and that was no longer standing at the time).
