This poster promotes a series of four concerts “In Celebration of the Music of Duke Ellington” at the Ann Arbor Jazz Festival of 1978; the series was presented by Eclipse Jazz, a student group at the University of Michigan that existed between 1975 and 1987 and brought legendary jazz musicians to the campus for concerts, lectures, and workshops. The poster, incorporating a photograph of Ellington, was designed early in the career of Nava Atlas, who has since established her name as the creator of artist’s books addressing a range of social-justice issues and as the author of many vegetarian and vegan cookbooks.
