Artist Rights Today was organized to obtain the copyrights signed away by many of the poster artists of the 1960s to San Francisco concert promoters like The Family Dog and Bill Graham. This piece, designed by Alton Kelley, has also been signed by four other psychedelic artists famed for their sixties rock posters and album covers: Victor Moscoso, Rick Griffin, Wes Wilson, and Stanley Mouse. The poster, in the psychedelic style of that decade, promotes a San Francisco fundraising concert for the organization featuring many star musicians. In it, the classical figure of Justice, styled like a West Coast hippie, holds the scales of justice in one hand while a large pencil symbolizing art replaces her traditional sword in the other. In front of her stands a man whose hat incorporates the names of artists Mouse, Wilson, and Moscoso in balloon letters.
