This is one of 21 posters designed by Otl Aicher and his team for the Summer Munich Olympics in 1972. As in each of the others, the image of the sportsmen is based on a photograph. Four events were held in slalom canoeing (a canoe race on river rapids with an obstacle course) for the first time at the Olympics. A special railway service between the Olympic Village and the Eiskanal in Augsburg where the contests were run enabled a trip of only 30 minutes each way.
