To promote the Hessischer Rundfunk’s Christmas broadcasting program, Kieser transforms some of the elements of a traditional German Christmas, like the Lebkuchen and Zimtsterne (that inspired certain American Christmas cookies) as well as painted beer steins, vintage ornaments, and 19th-century toys—all of which can typically be found at German Christmas markets—into a portrait of the Weihnachtsmann (Father Christmas) in profile. The portrait is inspired by the work of 16th-century Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo whose images of human figures are composed of fruits, vegetables, and other natural forms.
