Glaser’s design for Antony and Cleopatra, shown as part of the BBC Television Shakespeare on PBS in 1981, is much more innovative than the one he created for Hamlet in the same series. In this dramatic composition, he shows Antony kneeling at the feet of the enthroned Cleopatra who is surrounded by a colorful array of sometimes bizarre motifs intended to suggest Egyptian hieroglyphics.
