Paula Scher was one of 24 graphic designers commissioned by Neenah Paper in 2004 to create an image for a set of 24 silkscreen prints celebrating punctuation. Scher’s design, with its large apostrophe on a ground of smaller ones, reflects her fascination with the typographic images, often in black and red, produced by the Russian Constructivists. Each design was printed on Neenah’s ENVIRONMENT papers and the series was intended to promote this fine paper manufacturer, founded in Wisconsin in 1873. In 2005, the set won at Gold Pencil in the Environmental Design category and was auctioned to raise funds for the Books for Kids Foundation.
