This poster, produced during World War I, shows a helmeted hairy monster holding a knife and a bomb under a slogan that translates as “Misery and Destruction Follow Anarchy.” It was also issued under the slogan “Bolsehevism Brings War, Unemployment, and Starvation.” Both were produced by the Vereinigung zur Bekamfung des Bolshewismus (Association to Fight Against Bolshevism) in Berlin. The posters assert that Communism, as represented by the left-wing activists then demonstrating in Germany cities against the establishment that had allowed the slaughter of millions in the war, rather than nationalism, was the greatest threat to Germany.
