By the 1930s, the telephone industry in the United States had vastly expanded. Telephones were no longer a novelty item but had been a standard fixture in middle-class American homes and businesses for two decades. By the time this poster was produced, new technology allowed users to directly dial another local telephone without the assistance of an operator, and this further enhanced their widespread appeal. The telephone conduit referenced in this standard informational poster without images was used to protect and conceal exposed telephone wires.
