Chwast designed this poster for the Guggenheim Museum’s annual exhibition A Year with Children. His composition represents the seasons with four anthropomorphic figures; it similarly relates to his many charmingly eccentric illustrations for children’s books. The exhibition series, introduced in 1971 and still going strong, displays the work of children in New York City’s public elementary schools who are participants in the museum’s Learning Through Art (LTA) program; in 1985, as the poster indicates, it was still called “Learning to Read Through the Arts.”
